Festival Passions baroques | L’Italie à Versailles
Italian composers at the court of Louis XIV
Luigi Rossi’s Orfeo was one of the first Italian operas played in France. The influence of the Italian musical style was obvious, even if Lully – born Giovanni Battista Lulli in Florence – is still considered as the French master of the tragédie lyrique. The concert’s program explores the repertoire for 3 sopranos, an Italian invention introduced by Giuglio Caccini in his operas, that will be found in many both baroque Italian and French operas, as well as the influence of typical Italian musical patterns in the French style of composing opera.
