Pyrenees Early Music Festival (FeMAP) | The Plaint of Orpheus

cantoLX has the privilege to participate in the Pyrenees Early Music Festival (FeMAP) in Catalonia. The ensemble performs “The Plaint of Orpheus” on 7 and 8 August at the Sant Domènec church of Puigcerdà. This program shows the incredible creativity, variety and richness of solutions imagined by the composers of the Italian Seicento. As inventors of the monodic style they sought to create a new musical language that, by distancing itself from Renaissance polyphony (where multiple voices sing simultaneously), made it easier to understand the sung texts – as the humanist ‘academics’, inspired by Greek and Latin culture, strongly advocated.
